Cancer is more important than duckface.

I found this today via CNN.com, and I'm so very impressed and inspired I had to share.

This kid found a 100% accurate (via blind testing on a human population) test to detect pancreatic, ovarian, and lung cancers. Pancreatic and Ovarian cancers are (per my gyno) difficult if not impossible to detect early, which makes them seriously deadly.

A 15 year old did it, and he did it in such a way that the test costs $0.03. THREE CENTS. He's so right: the interwebz is a powerful tool that can be just fantastic.

Or it can be used for duckface pictures.

  2. Wow! Thanks, Jess. Amazing. Dear god I hope the world learns about this NOW so a pharmaceutical company doesn't swoop in and try to make this a $300 detection test.

Kudos to the kid for speaking so eloquently and poised in front of an audience. That might not be the point of this, but the fact that he is so passionate and calm deserves credit, too. Seems like a wonderful human being.

    1. I so agree. Sigh. Husband and I both work in different areas of the medical insurance industry, and I can about guarantee that any pharma company that bought this from the kid would inflate the price a zillion times. After all, the piece of plywood on a wheelchair that sits under the custom cushion costs over $150. The same piece of plywood costs about a buck at a home improvement store.
